Ackley Bridge star Rob James-Collier on Martin's new crisis and series 5 teasers
The brand new episodes will see Martin struggle with his responsibilities as school headteacher under constant scrutiny from Ken while also navigating his relationship with Jules.Digital Spy
"Martin is not happy about that, but it's just classic Martin. Ken's from the sort of academy side of things. He's looking at schools as balance sheets that need to be profitable, and Martin's more old-school, where it's more vocational, and about teaching and helping the kids, and not so much about managing profit margins and budgets.
"I think the writers have responded to that, and have written more Ken. We're going to get more Ken, because the world needs more Ken right now, and Ken is funny."Rob also revealed that viewers will get more insight into Martin's private life in series 5, as his relationship with Marina and Kayla's mum Jules continues to go from strength to strength.
"That brings in a whole new world of conflict where he's not trying to, or pretending to, be the girls' dad. But at the same time, he's with them on a home level, but then he's got to be with them at school, and try to maintain that professional level, and not side-step. It's a really difficult tightrope for Martin to walk. Particularly with Marina, because she sort of resents him. She hasn't got that paternal influence in her life.
