An application has been made to change the use of the Nelson Street premises previously used as a resource centre for the physically handicapped
A Lancashire County Council building on the edge of Accrington town centre has been earmarked for a Muslim community centre.
The new use will be related to the Islamic faith. A supporting statement submitted with the planning application to hyndburn-council>Hyndburn Council says: “Currently in the ownership of Lancashire County Council, the building is labelled as a centre for the physically handicapped on Ordnance Survey plans.“It displays signage stating it is a resource centre yet there is no record held by the planning department to confirm its usage. This application aims to rectify that.
“Being single-storey in height it is compatible with the surrounding two-storey domestic properties and taller apartment dwellings which surround the building. A grassed lawn frontage along with an existing tree will receive continued maintenance.
