'These election results show us that the people of America ... understand that issues like abortion are not single-issue,' SisterSong's executive director tells BAZAAR.com.

"We have to build on those connections so that we ... can have more collective power to fight against these systems that are constantly trying to take us out and silo us," Simpson says. "They thrive off of us being in silos. White supremacy thrives off of us being in silos. And our silos are not going to save us."about the 2022 midterm results, her message to Democrats, and the arduous fight ahead.

You're absolutely right. Hopefully, what people are able to get from this is what we, as reproductive justice leaders, have been saying from the very beginning: Abortion has never for us been a single-issue lens. So, when people are voting for abortion, they're not just voting for abortion. They're voting for economic justice, they're voting for queer and trans liberation, they're voting for the environment.

Bodily autonomy is at the core of all of this. I think that that's what voters really are invested in. Whether it's dealing with the economy and being able to create the best life for you and your family, whether it is being able to walk freely down the street and not be concerned about police brutality, or queer trans folks being able to be free and to feel safe in this country—at the core of all of those issues is bodily autonomy.

I think that we are at a place now where we're not just voting for people because we like them or because they've been in office forever and a day. We're voting for people who are actually going to do what they say they're going to do. And if they don't do that, then we have to make a different decision as voters.

Well, we're gonna have to continue to be in the fight for our lives, considering the fact that we now have another term with Kemp. He's already moved an abortion ban. He's already publicly talked about coming for contraception. He is nowhere near where he needs to be on the fight for maternal health in our state and as maternal mortality is on the rise. He is just the opposite of everything that reproductive justice stands for.
