They traded Carlos Beltran to the Astros, Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs, Andrew Miller to the Indians and Ivan Nova to the Pirates. They were going to release Alex Rodriguez until he agreed to retire with 696 career home runs with a month and a half remaining in the season.
Rookie pitcher Chad Green also returned in August after all the trades and Severino, then a second-year righty, was a September call-up after struggles led to a demotion. Judge contributed to Saturday’s win by hitting his 31st homer, but his big takeaway from the game was how the rookies handled playing an AL power on the road in front of a sellout crowd, many of whom hate the Yankees.
