Three cars were involved in the collision.
Emergency services were called to the A45 in Northamptonshire, between the Raunds Roundabout and the A14, at about 08:05 GMT on Saturday.
Northamptonshire Police said the collision happened on the eastbound carriageway and a passenger in a Ford Fiesta was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Fiesta, and the driver of a Toyota Avensis, both in their 30s, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
