Godzilla vs. Megalon Includes One Of The Biggest Tragedies In Godzilla History One of the silliest movies to come out of this period was Godzilla vs. Megalon, a 1973 film where Godzilla shared a team-up with a giant robot named Jet Jaguar. Their friendly handshake, Godzilla’s flying dropkick, its depiction of Jet Jaguar as a heroic, Ultraman-like figure, all lent itself well to Godzilla vs. Megalon’s happy, kid-friendly tone.
In spite of how much significance it holds, Godzilla vs. Megalon hardly applies much attention to what this development means for other monsters, even though it completely changed their lives. Prior to the film’s release, Toho's Monster Island had developed a reputation as the save haven for Godzilla and several other Toho kaiju, including Rodan, Anguirus, Gorosaurus, Mothra, and more. Godzilla’s Earlier Movies Make Godzilla vs. Megalon Even Sadder Adding to the tragic nature of this event is the fun team-ups Godzilla had previously shared with monsters like Rodan. Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster and Invasion of Astro Monster turned Godzilla and Rodan into an iconic kaiju duo. Its disappointing to consider that their partnership may have ended so unceremoniously, as opposed to leading into more off-screen battles with other Godzilla villains.
