A Harris County sheriff’s deputy was slowing down on Interstate 45 early Saturday to assist an ambulance that was rear-ended by a car when his own patrol car was struck by a second vehicle.
Firefighters extinguish a blaze on Interstate 45 where an ambulance and a Ford Focus crashed early Saturday. No one was seriously injured.
Authorities say the chain of collisions began when the ambulance and a Ford Focus traveling south on I-45 crashed near the Kuykendahl exit. No patients were in the ambulance and the two-member crew wasn’t injured, but both vehicles caught fire. The driver of the Ford Focus was taken to a hospital in stable condition and is under investigation for drunken driving, according to the Harris County sheriff’s office.
A sheriff’s deputy slowed down to help the occupants of the vehicles. A second car near the deputy was involved in a crash with a Chevrolet Tahoe, and authorities say the Tahoe struck the deputy’s patrol car.
