Javeno's unique gym helps trauma survivors and people with dementia.
Javeno Mclean in his gym J7 with Aimee and Joshy Glancing at him on the street, Javeno Mclean looks like just your average guy from Manchester. But for 22 years, the personal trainer has been doing what every disabled person wishes for – treating them like everyone else. ‘I believe everyone should be treated normally. That is such a basic statement, but it’s the most powerful thing – to be included,’ Javeno tells Metro.co.uk. ‘I don’t care about disability.
‘My goal with her was to eliminate that fear, so we can open up so many other doors of strength, improving her self-esteem and ability.’ And it’s definitely working. ‘My confidence has grown. Before I was worried about people looking at me walking and thinking “Oh, she’s just drunk.” I don’t really care now,’ Kiera proudly says. Javeno’s workouts are different too – they’re focused on what you can do, not what you can’t.
