Tel Aviv-based Eureka says it helps security teams protect data in multiple cloud environments by identifying any issues with how this data is accessed and managed

The fact that the name of Liat Hayun’s company is “Eureka” says something both about her confidence and the problem the company is tackling.

Eureka announced an $8 million funding round in January, led by YL Ventures, a venture firm that has recruited executives from the largest U.S. companies, including Google and Microsoft, to its advisory board. I found the company interesting because of Hayun’s credentials, and because data security is so critical to private institutions that are in turn vital to civil society, like hospitals, utilities and finance companies. Russia in particular has a long expertise, honed through the second half of the 20Hayun – a veteran of the Israeli military and of Palo Alto Networks — is rare as a woman CEO.

Palo Alto Networks now employs 700 people in Israel, mostly in engineering, Hayun said. “For the first four years, I was leading end point security,” she said. After, that she left for maternity leave. When she returned, she worked on product development, and discovered how much she liked being part of a startup dynamic.
