Bill Brown, who retired at age 65 and has been married to his wife for over 40 years, says that his number one rule for an easy retirement is to"be married." In his own experience, he's found it easier to live off of two incomes than it is to live off one, and there are expenses in retirement like housing that can be cut by sharing. In some cases, there are also financial benefits to marriage like being able to collect Social Security based on your partner's income.
