A Jacksonville convicted sex offender was indicted for producing, distributing and possessing child sexual abuse materials

– A convicted sex offender from Jacksonville has been indicted for committing multiple child exploitation offenses. Kevin John Merritt, 61, was indicted on charges of producing, distributing, and possessing child sexual abuse materials.

If convicted, he faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years, up to a maximum of 110 years in federal prison. Merritt had previously been convicted in 2011 for possessing similar materials. The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and it is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.

The charges are part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.
