Billy DeWitt and grandaughter Elizabeth Edmonds take a break in Liverpool during this year's Tour de Braz Bike Ride.When he joined hundreds of other cyclists for the Tour de Braz Bike Ride on April 15 in Alvin, Bill DeWitt, 91, wasn’t fazed at the prospect of heading out on a 34-mile route that was one of the options for the event.
"He shows up at every event and helps set up, tear down, take out the trash and help put the tables and chairs up," said Tonya Masceri, the chamber's administration and events director. DeWitt and Jimenez quickly became cycling buddies and trained for other rides, including the Texas MS 150.The friends would fly out to participate in cycling events across the nation, including in Georgia and Illinois.
Out of curiosity, he went inside the church to ask about the sign. A member told him that calls to 911 in that community would go to Indianapolis, which would then have to be relayed to first responders in Speedway, delaying response time. So, the church worked directly with first responders since the town's fire station was only a block away.
Following a map, the DeWitts stopped near the entrance of the house, where a man came up to their window.
