Mayor Muriel Bowser officially renamed the section of 16th street in front of the White House “Black Lives Matter Plaza” earlier this month.Kaitlyn and her parents had been watching the Black Lives Matter protests unfold on TV and she had learned more about the Black Lives Matter movement in school last year, according to her mom, Katrice Saunders.
"I listened to the music a couple of times and thought of moves that could go with the music," she said."And then I saved the moves in my head so when it was time to skate I just did what I thought in my head." "It’s really nice," said Kaitlyn."I wish I could give the positive messages to other people who aren’t doing so well."Kaitlyn Saunders, 9, performed a skating routine at the Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, D.C.Kaitlyn has been figure skating for less than three years. She was first exposed to the sport through a field trip to a local ice skating rink with the city's recreation department, according to her mom.
