Manchester United transfer news as captain Bruno Fernandes is a target for Bayern Munich this summer and the attacking midfielder is receptive to leaving Old Trafford
MEN Sport understands Bayern Munich are interested in purchasing the Portuguese midfielder and the 29-year-old is receptive to a move away from the Premier League club. Players in the squad are understood to be worried that Fernandes will depart at the end of the season.
United might be open for a sale because he is one of the few assets in this squad that can attract a good fee. His original fee has also been paid off in terms of amortisation so it would all count as profit and reflect well in terms of what the club can spend this summer. There are positives to selling if the offer is too good to refuse.
Fernandes' creativity was sorely missed and United do not have a midfield player with the same inventive skills that he has. Despite there being a need for the club to freshen up their squad this summer, they should be doing all they can to retain Fernandes and continue to utilise him as a key figure.
Without him on the pitch last Monday, United really struggled and it is clear he has grown into a leader in that dressing room. The Reds are desperate for a clearout at the end of this season but it seems like they could be losing not only one good character in Varane but another in Fernandes. But at age 29, there is also an issue over whether he will begin to decline and United can't afford to have more players on the wane. Injuries may have begun to take their toll after he missed United's last two games, having never previously been absent through injury before.
