During that time, many value fund managers drifted toward growth names, said Eli Salzmann, the portfolio manager of the Neuberger Berman Large Cap Value Fund , in a recent interview with Insider. But while his peers shifted their strategies, Salzmann didn't budge. "There were times where it's clearly very painful to be in the value box," Salzmann said."It was a very lonely experience. I had no friends — I might still have no friends — but I certainly had no friends for that whole period. But we stuck to our discipline this entire time. So I'm proud to say that the returns we generated truly were value returns.
