Six Atlanta police officers face criminal charges, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard announced Tuesday, after a video surfaced of the police pulling two college students out of a car during Saturday night’s protests, with one tased despite seemingly not resisting.demonstration on May 31, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia. Across the country, protests have erupted following the recent death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Messiah Young, 22, and his girlfriend, Teniyah Pilgrim, 20, were taken into custody after the 9 p.m. curfew went into effect.Neither Young nor Pilgrim seemed to be resisting, but officers broke the car’s windows, tasing Young and forcing them to the ground, before handcuffing the two with zip ties.Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said Pilgrim was released without charges and that Young was released as well and will have his charges dropped.
