Sure, classes can be awkward—but they don’t have to be.
. But they can also stress people out big time, so much so that they may avoid the class in the first place. There’s an easy solution, though: Familiarize yourself with the equipment, so you can focus more on learning the gear than getting in a solid workout.
"You want a good workout, but you also want to have a level of comfort with the equipment," says Celli. "Understand that it might take you three or even four classes to feel like you've really got it. And that's OK, everybody goes through that process.
Sometimes, all it takes is a comment to someone else, such as, “Wow, that finisher almost killed me,” met by a reply like, “You should come on Fridays—she skips them!”
