The way I’ve implemented this is by scheduling regular FaceTimes with my best friends that live in different states and planning frequent girls trips to see them. While your group may get smaller over the years, you’ll be grateful for the friends that you kept close and the work you put in to stay connected."USA / Via"I had finished my apprenticeship in Hundstrup, Fyn, Denmark, where I grew up and earned my journeyman’s papers as a locksmith.
"[This] advice is from my mom; she would tell me this whenever I would leave the house to go somewhere as a way for me to not do stupid things. I told the same thing to my kids as they were growing up. Before, I’d felt guilty for being a burden and inconvenience to others. If I gave in to what they wanted, I no longer felt that guilt. While I was aware that mindset was definitely unhealthy for my own self-worth, I hadn’t considered how it could be harmful to other people in my life too. My dad’s advice helped me see the bigger picture. The people in other cars have their own interests, they just want me out of the way, and they may not care what happens to me or the other people on the road.
I would never have thought I would be opening my own business, but because I nurtured the positive relationships around me and did not focus on the setbacks, I found what I needed to make that happen. When I think of this quote, I think, Use the pause to ask, 'Is my anger justified, or is this the collective weariness of COVID that has created a hair trigger emotional response?' And even if my anger is justified, what purpose will be served by responding in anger? And…you don’t know what hard or awful thing that person had to deal with before they did something that pissed you off."Probably the best advice I have ever gotten is from my parents when I was growing up in Colombia.
On one of my jaunts, I met a handsome Dane , a Lutheran. We fell in love, and after three days we decided we would marry. Now, 61 years and 4 children later, we are still a loving couple. At times over the years, it was a struggle, but apparently I always knew I had to grow into who I would be and follow the magic that was meant for me.
A lot can be accomplished just through perseverance and audaciousness, and if you want something badly enough, you should never be afraid to advocate for yourself so you can reach your dreams."Tap to play or pause GIF"I truly forget where I read this advice a long time ago... But I know that I read it somewhere online while mindlessly scrolling. I didn't quite know what the writer was talking about, but once I read her full explanation, it made SO MUCH SENSE TO DO.
I decided to try it. I first started with just taking care of my skin. Then, I started to work harder on school work. Then, I started to clean up my room. I still struggle from time to time, but I remind myself to break it up into chunks and work from there.""My mom would always nag me to send thank you notes for everything. Birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, hostess gifts, being invited to sleepovers, literally everything.
My first month in the States was so challenging because even ordering a cup of coffee at Starbucks was such a big task for me. Especially after a cashier made a fool of me for not saying Americano correctly, I never thought I would be better at speaking or writing in English. Well, that did pass, and now I have a full-time job and probably make more money than that cashier girl.
Reality is always moving forward, and the only thing to really do is to acknowledge and learn for the future. Whether it means forgiving, changing a current course of action, or just remembering so I don’t repeat a mistake, I have to be honest with myself. Honest about who I was at the time, what I knew at the time, the information/setting/condition at that time that led me to make the choice I made.
I still think about this quote on the daily. I seek items and materials with stories because they still have more life to live, more to wear, more to experience and give. Catch me with some shoes worn down to the ball of my foot because that’s what they're meant to do. Meant to see every step I take, every terrain I conquer, touch the surface of the earth before I do. So yeah, I guess my best piece of advice has come from my mother…imagine that.
And it hit me at the time. As a short, very young-looking, quite smiley woman, I was always feeling like I was being dismissed and not taken seriously. I would spend time and effort trying to show how smart and competent I was and would get angry and frustrated when I wasn’t immediately treated that way. I realized I should lean in to people’s underestimation and use their incorrect assumptions to my advantage. It’s something I still do.
So, not long thereafter, I chose to marry and start a family, a decision that I have never regretted. I ultimately gave birth to five lovely children, the oldest of whom suddenly passed away in her early 30s. I have never regretted the decision I made, and but for the hysterectomy I later had to have, I would have loved to have even more children.
I held management positions in the company I worked for, I have a wonderful brother and two terrific sisters, but it was my mother who taught me to pray and love God with all of my heart, and that was the best thing that ever happened to me. I was the first born and oldest child in the family, and the first three years of my life were spent pretty exclusively with her. She taught me about God and how to pray.
Another way I organize my day is to list out 'To Do Items' based on those with the highest priority. As they are completed, I check them off and move on to the next item. As new tasks come in, these are merged into the outstanding remaining items. Every day before I leave, I always update my To Do list and move any outstanding things to the next day, which also gives me a glimpse of what is upcoming to be accomplished.
