This event is a 3-week competition from 6th June to 9th September, featuring 10 nationwide competition venues. The participation of foreign athletes, after the pandemic in 2019, has increased the atmosphere, although COVID-19 measures are strictly enforced. Adding to the excitement is the appearance of international stars, giving a new boost to Japan's motorcycle racing industry. The foreign athletes participating include former world champion Harry Labbelen (29 from Netherlands) and former world champion Ellie Andlours (26 New Zealand) among others. The meeting in Tokyo also saw world-class athletes showing their enthusiasm and interest in competing in Japan. The athletes showed the excitement in a casual and convivial atmosphere, but also revealed the competitive spirit.

世界的なトラック競技のスターが来日し、日本の競輪界に新たな刺激をもたらす。7年ぶりの外国人招へいレースは、この上ない豪華な顔ぶれがそろった。 フォーマルな出で立ちで現れた選手たちは終始、笑顔だったが、言葉の端々にはトップ選手としての誇りが感じられた。 男子の最大の注目は、オランダの至宝・ラブレイセンだ。 東京、パリの五輪2大会で5個の金メダルを獲得。
昨年のUCI（国際自転車競技連合）世界選手権では4冠に輝いた。 その〝絶対王者〟が、ついに日本の競輪へ初参戦を果たす。 会見では「トゥルーマンとカナダのバーで飲んでいる時、日本で走りたいと話していた。 先にトゥルーマンが呼ばれて嫉妬していた」というエピソードも明かした。
ケイリンと競輪はルールの違いがあるが、競輪学校での模擬レースで感覚はつかんでいる。
「たくさんのレースで勝つ」だけでなく「レコードも残したい」と記録へのこだわりも示した。2年後のロサンゼルス五輪を見据え、大会の間にはロスに飛んで視察することも明かした。 リチャードソンも日本の競輪に参加するのは初めて。200メートルタイムトライアルで唯一9秒の壁を破っている男は「UCIとやり方が違うが、日本でスキルを得ればUCIでも役に立つ」と捉えている。 トゥルーマンは18、19年に参戦して7度の優勝を飾っている。 イギリス人らしく「雨の中のレースには慣れている」と屋外での戦いも意に介さない。
ラインの概念も深く理解しており「勝てる戦略はいろいろある」とさまざまな脚質を見せてくれそうだ。 女子のエース的存在になるのがアンドルーズだ。 パリ五輪はケイリン、スプリントで金、チームスプリントで銀となった。 ガールズケイリンは初参加で「日本に来ることは長い間の夢であり、招待されたことは大きな名誉」という。
屋外バンクについては「若い頃に母国で走っていた経験を思い出す。 懐かしくて良い感触がある」とポジティブに捉えている。
「ハッピーで明るい性格をファンに見せたい」と笑顔で語った。 グロは18、19年以来の参戦で、当時を振り返り「人生で最高の経験の一つ」と明かした。 「見せたいのはロングスプリント」だが、加速力がアップしていることもアピールした。
