2028 Subaru_USA WRX STI EV: What we know so far:
. We don't know much about what the next STI will include, but Subaru has said it is exploring electrification for a future model. That would likely mean some sort of Toyota system adopted for the STI, as the two companies have been collaborating on electrified vehicles lately. Whether that results in a hybrid or pure battery-electric powertrain remains to be seen, but we don't expect to see a new STI until the current WRX generation is on the way out.
The STI EV is expected to have an electrified powertrain, and we believe it'll take at least 400 horsepower to be a worthy follow-on to the old gas-powered, rally-inspired models. If it turns out to be a pure-electric, that almost certainly means it will employ a dual-motor setup with all-wheel-drive and a torque-vectoring system. With all the changes happening, we would also love to see a return to the old WRX's hatchback body style.
