The U.S. Open begins Monday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Here's What to Watch For.

The U.S. Open begins on Monday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., and runs through Sept. 10.
World No. 1s Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek are the defending champions, but both are expected to face major challenges this year. The eventual singles champions will take home $3 million each and the runner-up receives $1.5 million. First-round losers earn a cool $81,500. ESPN has the rights to the tournament starting at 11 a.m. each day with Tennis Channel also airing pre-match coverage beginning at 9 a.m.Ever since losing in the first round of Wimbledon to fellow American Sofia Kenin, the 19-year-old Gauff has been on a tear. She added Brad Gilbert, who mentored Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick, to her coaching team, and has gone 11-1 since Wimbledon.
Gauff won titles in Washington, D.C. and Cincinnati and reached the quarterfinals in Montreal. Last weekend in Cincinnati, she beat Swiatek, the world No. 1 and four-time major winner, for the first time in three tough sets in the semifinals, and then took out French Open runner-up Karolina Muchova in straight sets in the final.
