2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV expert review: the first EV bargain.
Beyond just being an affordable EV, the Bolt EUV is one of the best everyday cars on sale. Sure, it's not that exciting to look at, but the driving experience is wonderfully refined. Ride quality is great, reflecting GM's general excellence in vehicle dynamics, and the 200-hp, 266 lb-ft electric motor driving the front wheels is smooth and powerful at everyday speeds.
Our colleagues at Car and Driver say it'll do 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds, and that matches the time posted by the Honda Civic Si. You probably don't need a daily runabout to be any quicker. Turn the traction control off and you can do a one-tire burnout, too.Being an older product, the Bolt EUV doesn't use GM's new Ultium battery architecture, yet it still offers an impressive EPA range of 247 miles.
For me, I'd get this car, but skip the Redline package, and the Sun and Sound packages. That's $35,495 before tax credits for a practical, great-driving EV with serious range and one of the best driver-assist systems on the market. For far less than the average cost of a new car in this crazy time, you get something that's more than enough car for most needs.
