With all facets looking more promising, here’s a look at the Chargers’ offense heading into the season, which opens Sunday against the Miami Dolphins

On paper, the Chargers look unstoppable. They have a quarterback capable of shredding defenses, a running back who has led the NFL in touchdowns scored while rushing and receiving the past two seasons, an embarrassment of riches at wide receiver and a sturdy offensive line.

Here’s a look at the Chargers’ offense heading into the 2023 regular season, which opens Sunday against the Miami Dolphins at SoFi Stadium:Herbert has passed for 4,000 yards or more in each of his first three seasons in the NFL, including 4,739 last season. There was a sense after he signed a mammoth, $262.5 million contract extension on the eve of training camp that this would be the season he really breaks out.

Improving the running game and establishing a more balanced offense are a priority. Kelley, Spiller and Doston showed signs during camp and three exhibition games that Ekeler will have improved backups. The Chargers want Ekeler fresher for the stretch run and the playoffs.Palmer established himself as one of Herbert’s top targets last season, earning his trust and that of the coaching staff while Allen and Williams were sidelined by injuries at various points of last season.

Parham has had injury issues in the past few seasons, but he’s an excellent blocker and is likely to be a top backup to Everett when the season begins. McKitty and Smartt each made a good impression during training camp and, especially, during three exhibition contests.Rashawn Slater, Zion Johnson, Corey Linsley, Jamaree Salyer, Trey Pipkins III, Will Clapp, Brenden Jaimes, Jordan McFadden, Foster Sarell.
