Taking these steps would not only aid women in returning to work, but it would also contribute to the long-term stability of our democracy by bolstering our economy, reducing child poverty (which low employment among women only fosters), and ultimately, creating a more equitable balance of power.
Two years ago, in this very column, I wrote that women had the potential to make the twenties roar. It was an election year, #MeToo was in full swing, and there really started to be meaningful movement forward on dismantling sex discrimination in some of the largest workplaces on Earth. The future, as this column saw it, was one where women were finally about to hit critical mass: with enough of us in management, we’d start to get a more equitable share of the promotion pipeline.
