UPDATE: Authorities investigating second deadly shooting in Oakland this afternoon, this time at Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline boat launch.
Vanya said officers from both the park district and the Oakland Police Department arrived to find one man dead from a gunshot wound. An investigation is underway.
The second happened near the Lake Merritt BART station just a few minutes later, according to the transit agency’s Chief Communications Officer Alicia Trost. Trost said one person was shot and killed just after 2:30 p.m. on the street level and near the station’s bus zone. BART police later took a suspect into custody in connection to the shooting, following a search of the area around the station, according to Trost.
Trost said there was no indication that either the man in custody or the person who was shot were BART riders. This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
