JUST IN: Two people are dead and nine others are injured after a pickup truck plowed into pedestrians beside a road in Quebec.
TORONTO — Two men died Monday after a pickup truck plowed into pedestrians beside a road in the eastern Quebec town of Amqui. A senior Canadian official rapidly ruled out a terrorism attack or a national security incident.
Sgt. Hélène St-Pierre said the 38-year-old driver, a local resident, turned himself in to police and was arrested under suspicion of committing a fatal hit and run. St-Pierre said investigators and accident reconstruction experts were working to establish the circumstances of the crash. The incident happened just after 3 p.m. along St-Benoit Boulevard in Amqui, a town about 350 220 miles northeast of Quebec City.
