2 Alabama men missing in Ukraine after battle with Russian forces

A Tuscaloosa man and a man from Trinity in Lawrence County reportedly have been taken prisoner while aiding Ukraine in the war against Russia.

Andy Tai Ngoc Huynh, 27, of Trinity in Lawrence County has not been in contact with his family in more than a week. Huynh, a former U.S. service member, volunteered to go fight with the Ukrainian Army in the war against Russia. Aderholt said Huynh’s family has not been in contact with him since June 8 when he was in the Kharkiv area of Ukraine.

“As you can imagine, his loved ones are very concerned about him. My office has placed inquires with both the United States Department of State and the Federal Bureau of Investigation trying to get any information possible,” Aderholt said in a statement. “While my office works to get more details, I would ask everyone to pray for Andy’s safety and to pray for the comfort of his family back in Lawrence County.”“I’ve made peace with the decision. I know there’s a potential of me dying.

Another man, Alexander Drueke, 39, is believed to be with Huynh. Drueke is from Tuscaloosa and Alabama Sens. Richard Shelby and Tommy Tuberville, as well as Rep. Terri Sewell, are assisting his family.is reporting both men were taken prisoner during a fight with Russian armor last week. Huynh and Drueke reportedly fired at least one shot at a Russian vehicle, destroying it with a rocket-propelled grenade before their capture.
