" If there's anything we've learned from watching the Met Gala evolve over the years, it's to always expect the unexpected.
Beginning in 1948, the Met Gala — then known as The Costume Institute Benefit — started as a midnight supper that invited guests could attend for fifty dollars a ticket. From the 1940s to the early '70s, the Gala was held off-premises in the Waldorf Astoria and various other locations and consisted of dinner and light entertainment., became a consultant for the Costume Institute, she encouraged more ambitious and exotic exhibitions.
