SINGAPORE – Thirteen people, including a 16-year-old youth, were arrested for their suspected involvement in the recent spate of banking-related malware scam cases.
They were arrested in an island-wide anti-scam enforcement operation conducted between June 26 and 30 by officers from the Commercial Affairs Department and Police Intelligence Department , the police said in a statement on Saturday. The scammers also told the victims via phone calls and text messages to turn on accessibility services on their Android phones.
The offence of acquiring benefits from criminal conduct carries a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine of up to $500,000, or both.For disclosing their Singpass credentials, offenders are liable to a jail term of up to three years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.At least 2 Android users lose nearly $100k of CPF savings in June in malware-related scams
