I actually hate how a good commercial can make me cry. Like, I hate how much control it has over me.
Finally,"The John Lewis ad where the little boy is frightened by the monster under the bed, though they ultimately become pals. 'Golden Slumbers' plays in the background, because the little boy gets little to no sleep, as he’s hanging out with the monster when he should be sleeping.
One Christmas, the kid gets an ill-wrapped gift. He looks worried, as if he knows what’s coming. It’s a marvelous gift from the monster, but that night is the last time he sees the monster. The next night, when he peers under the bed, the monster is gone. The boy has now grown too old for monster friends. I wept every time I saw that...and during most John Lewis ads."
