The much loved Brazilica Festival returned to Liverpool's streets
In an explosion of talent, vibrant colours, intoxicating and joyful music, and plenty of joy, Brazilica Festival took to Liverpool's streets. The event kicked off at 7.30pm, with a parade delighting crowds of revellers.
The carnival-style event made its return after a two year hiatus in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. It had been a main-stay in the city since it debuted in 2008 after Liverpool was crowned European Capital of Culture, coming back with a bang this weekend.The Rio-style carnival parade was organised to honour the city's coveted title, going on to become such a beloved event that it became an annual occurrence and a firm feature on Liverpool's rich cultural calendar.
The event features a smorgasbord of entertainment, with music, film, food stalls, exhibitions, dance and more. It began at 7.30pm at Abercromby Square, next to The Cambridge pub, and turned onto Oxford Street, past the Metropolitan Cathedral and along Hope Street to The Philharmonic. The carnival moved down Hardman Street, Leece Street, past St Luke's Bombed Out Church, Bold Street and then Church Street. It finished in Williamson Square.
People were out in force to catch a glimpse of the energetic and entertaining action.
