For its first half, Dead Heat is a story where a pair of wisecracking cops mow down countless criminals in a hail of gunfire. However, as Dead Heat continues and its hero starts to shed body parts thanks to his decomposition, it becomes clear that this gleefully silly, gruesome action-comedy is in on the joke.
