Muslims around the world are celebrating Ramadan. A month of prayer, self-reflection and fasting. During this holy month Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, to remember those who are less fortunate and also practice gratitude.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar which Muslims look forward to every year. During Ramadan, Muslims eat before dusk which is known as Suhoor or Sehri and open their fast post sunset which is known as Iftar.

1. The main rule is no drinking and eating from dawn until sunset. After sunset, Muslims break their fast with dates, milk or water. Then followed by a meal known as Iftar.4. Refrain from bad habits such as swearing, gossiping, arguing, fighting, being disrespectful, cruel or selfish.6. You can shower have a bath and go swimming as long as you don’t swallow water.8. You cannot take medicine orally, this would invalidate the fast.

9. When a woman is on her menstrual cycle she is exempt from fasting during this time and is encouraged to repeat the days she has missed outside of Ramadan. 10. If you accidentally swallow food or taste food while cooking this will not break your fast as it is done unintentionally therefore your fast is still valid and you can carry on fasting.1. Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding.5. Women on their menstrual cycleThose who are not able to participate in the fast of Ramadan they still take part in worshipping and bettering themselves during this holy month.
