Every era has its iconic summer movies, but some 90s summer movies are practically perfect. When it comes to summer watch lists, films like Grease, Jaws, and Dirty Dancing almost always make the cut. A good summer movie can follow a summer fling or the summer adventure of a group of childhood friends. The 90s took these themes and ran with them and provided a slew of great summer films.
10 Dazed And Confused Set in 1976, Dazed and Confused is a coming-of-age film following a group of high schoolers on their last day of school before summer vacation. From young love to vicious bullies, the characters, including Mitch and Pink, try to navigate the day, realizing that nothing will be the same now that the seniors have graduated and Mitch and his classmates are entering high school.
8 Point Break Point Break is an action-crime film intertwined with a sweet and complicated love story. It stars a young Keanu Reeves and post-Dirty Dancing Patrick Swayze, who, working together, can easily charm audiences. Swayze is as likable as a surfer turned thief as he was as Baby's dance teacher, which is why despite some of the moderate violence, it's still an enjoyable summer film.
6 Thelma & Louise Thelma & Louise, a six-time Oscar-nominated film, winning for Best Screenplay, was called a landmark of feminist cinema by Far Out Magazine. The movie's leads, Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon, nail their roles as Thelma and Louise, characters on the run from the law after killing a man who tried to rape Thelma.
