1995's Mortal Kombat was a trailblazer in the genre of video game movies, but the film's many missteps are distractingly obvious upon a rewatch.

Following the massive success of the 1992 arcade fighting game of the same name, Hollywood quickly set about producing a film adaptation.

9 The PG-13 Rating Is A Slap In The Game’s Face Mortal Kombat was not the only 2D fighting game on the market in the 1990s. One prominent reason the game was able to edge out its competitors was its gloriously violent and indulgent “fatality” finishing moves. However, the 1995 film wasn’t able to honor this key part of the Mortal Kombat pedigree, as the film was rated PG-13. The result is a string of underwhelming and frustrating fatalities, such as neck snaps and bloodless stabbings.
