Jerry Raynes, 51, was seen Sunday leaving a gas station in Spring Valley, Hinds County sheriff says.
Jones said investigators weren’t yet sure if Raynes traveled alone, but investigators recovered a stolen county maintenance truck in Harris County as well.
Raynes, who had been facing charges on suspicion of auto theft and business burglary, was one of four men who escaped from a detention facility Saturday in Mississippi. The four men formerly were being held at Raymond Detention Center in Hinds County. The detention center from which they escaped was for pretrial detainees who have not been convicted of a crime as they await a court appearance.
The other escapees included Dylan Arrington, 22, who had been charged on suspicion of auto theft and being convicted felon in possession of a firearm; Casey Grayson, 24, who had been charged on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and grand larceny; and Cory Harrison, 22, who had been charged on suspicion of receiving stolen property.
Investigators later found one of those men, Arrington, dead inside a burned structure in Mississippi, Jones said.
