A 2-year-old baby and a 17-year-old boy were among those critically hurt when two cars traveling the wrong way caused a deadly three-car crash on an I-95 exit ramp Saturday in Northeast Philadelphia, police said.
At least one person died and several others were critically hurt, including a 2-year-old and a teenager, after two cars traveling in the wrong direction caused a three-vehicle wreck on an Interstate 95 exit ramp Saturday in Northeast Philadelphia, police said.
The 48-year-old male occupant of one of the wrong-way cars died at the scene while the other three passengers of the car – including the baby and a 17-year-old boy – were in critical condition, police said. In all, five people were critically hurt among the three cars involved. The aforementioned car, a gray Mitsubishi, and a gray Mercury with a man and woman inside were both traveling the wrong way on the southbound exit of I-95 near the 9100 block of Academy Road in the Torresdale neighborhood when they collided with a Nissan traveling in the correct direction, the Philadelphia Police Department said.
The 2-year-old boy in the Mitsubishi was rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and then transferred to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, where he was listed in extremely critical condition, the PPD said. The 17-year-old was in critical condition at Jefferson City Hospital, while a 45-year-old woman was in critical condition at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital.
