We speak with CityOnFire stars Xavier Clyde & Nico Tortorella about cultivating their characters' romance and how it is affected by a traumatic event at the heart of the AppleTVPlus series:
Created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the first three episodes of City on Fire are now available to stream on Apple TV+. The show centers around NYU student, Samantha, and the events that lead to her being shot on the night of July 4th, 2003. However, the romance between aspiring writer, Mercer , and his boyfriend, William , also becomes an integral aspect of the series.
Stars Xavier Clyde and Nico Tortorella chat exclusively with Screen Rant about their characters' romance and how it may be affected by the traumatic event at the heart of City on Fire. Speaking of that relationship, there are some very adorable moments between your characters, but we can tell right off the bat that William isn't making Mercer his focus. What can you tease about that dynamic this season?
Xavier Clyde: It was definitely one of those where you're living in the truth of the moment, wherever that may be. In Mercer and William's relationship, in that moment, are these highs and these lows, and it's something that goes on in relationships. For us to be able to just trust each other, like you said, that first scene we had together—we never rehearsed it or talked too much about it. You just show up on set, and you look at each other and say, "I trust you...
