President Joe Biden will host a second summit with Pacific Island leaders on Monday where the United States is set to recognize the independence of the Cook Islands and Niue, two small Pacific nations.
During the two-day U.S.
-Pacific Islands Forum Summit, Biden will showcase his efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations in the Pacific Island countries as China's increasing military and economic influence threatens the region.Biden is expected to deliver new resources to assist with Internet connectivity, infrastructure projects, and more. The president is slated to speak at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
