A Florida duo known as the"Glades Boys" have captured the state's longest-ever recorded Burmese python, measuring 19 feet long and weighing 125 pounds. The record catch of the invasive species was verified by a local environmental conservancy.
"Giant is an understatement for this beast," Waleri and his partner in python-catching-crime Stephen Gauta posted on "We had a feeling that these snakes get this big and now we have clear evidence," Ian Easterling, a biologist with the conservancy said."Her genetic material may prove valuable for an eventual understanding of the founding population of South Florida. We will be collecting measurements and samples that will be distributed to our research collaborators."
