Pence stood his ground so that he could return to the floor of the U.S. Senate to certify the election of the new President of the United States. It was his duty.

It was a responsibility that he had sworn to fulfill when he took the oath of office to “defend and protect the Constitution of the United States.” On that day, Mike Pence was a national hero.

Reports are that Pence spent over five hours in his first session with the grand jury. That is plenty of time to pry some facts out of the man who had the second mostdirect knowledge of what emanated from the Oval Office that day. After all, we already know that the former President was less than subtle in browbeating his Vice President that fateful morning. Ivanka Trump herself has testified that her father yelled loudly at Pence to insist that he disrupt the certification process.

In addition, Pence may have had first-hand knowledge about the plot to substitute “fake electors” in key states and could shed light on the role that the ex-president and his advisors played in that scheme. He could also share what other legal and illegal actions the ex-president took to hold onto power.

Pence can determine the entire demeanor of the presidential race based on his testimony. He can choose to be truthful and let the justice system run its course, or he can obfuscate and hide behind legal maneuverings to avoid a confrontation with the bully who continues to whipsaw the Republican party.
