A threat prompted police activity at San Marcos High School Friday morning that kept some students locked in their classrooms for hours and forced deputies to turn away students being dropped off.
San Diego County Sheriff's deputies responded to the school at 1615 West San Marcos Blvd. at 8 a.m. and a lockdown for students and staff was initiated, the sheriff's department said. K-9s from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms , including one named Barny, helped deputies and assisting CHP and Cal State San Marcos officers secure the campus.
Law enforcement teams cleared a soccer field and then moved sheltered students and staff to the fields so they could screen classrooms and campus buildings, according to the SDSO.The high school sent a text message to parents to alert them about the lockdown. Students and staff were released at around 11 a.m.Nothing suspicious was found during the search, deputies said in a news release Friday afternoon.
