The Rev. Roy Belocura of St. Julie Billiart Parish in Tinley Park will run the Chicago Marathon, his first, to raise money for the Pat Kmak Faith Formation Fund.
The Rev. Roy Belocura of St. Julie Billiart Parish in Tinley Park will run the Chicago Marathon Oct. 8 to raise funds for the Pat Kmak Faith Formation Fund, in honor of Pat Kmak, who died unexpectedly July 23, 2022, at age 84.
Belocura, 43, will run the race Oct. 8 to raise money for the parish’s Pat Kmak Faith Formation Fund, in honor of“People told me that she really doesn’t want to be given the spotlight,” Belocura said. “I would think she would be happy that we are highlighting the need for faith formation for all ages because that’s the purpose of the fund.”
The fund will cover financial aid for families, catechist resources, faith formation events, mission trips, pilgrimages and retreats, according to the parish. Belocura said running was “a new found passion” because as he grew up in New Bataan in the Philippines, he didn’t participate in competitive sports. He was ordained in 2011 and moved to the U.S. in 2017, which is when he started as an associate pastor at St. Mary’s Church in Des Plaines.“That started as a personal challenge,” Belocura said. “At first, I didn’t believe I could do it because I didn’t do any competitive sports growing up.
