Just 13 miles downriver from the existing Del Norte Unit, the new 18,000-acre area will offer opportunities for swimming, fishing, paddling, hiking and biking. It’s expected to open in early 2024.

Hughes Unit of Devils River State Natural Area lies at the intersection of three diverse ecological areas — the Chihuahuan Desert to the west, Edwards Plateau to the north, and Tamaulipan shrublands to the south and east.This natural area is nestled in pristine Texas Hill Country land near Bourne. The Kronkosky family started buying the property north of San Antonio in 1946.
