Texas kids would need parental consent to create social media accounts under a House bill advancing at the State Capitol. It would require digital service providers to get approval from parents before entering into an agreement with minors younger than 18. The bill would also let parents request access to any data on social media associated with the minor.
Opponents include Facebook parent Meta. Representatives testified against the bill saying it could bring unintended consequences that could undermine safeguards already put in place.
