The Aggies led by 20 points nearly midway through the second half against Auburn before the Tigers made a game of by cutting A&M’s lead to five points with 2:14 remaining in the game. But high-flying A&M guard Quenton Jackson’s slam dunk and block of an attempted fast break layup on the other end in the span of less than a minute helped seal the improbable victory and shove the Aggies into the semifinals for the first time since 2016.
That year they made the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament under then-coach Billy Kennedy and future NBA players Danuel House and Alex Caruso. On Friday guard Tyrece “Boots” Radford led the Aggies with 19 points.
