A suspect was arrested Monday in connection to the fatal shooting of a Philadelphia police officer, according to authorities.

Police said Officer Richard Mendez was shot and killed -- and another officer was hurt -- late Thursday night at a Philadelphia International Airport parking garage. Police said Mendez, along with Officer Raul Ortiz, were shot when they confronted people breaking into a car outside the airport. Mendez was shot multiple times, while Ortiz was shot once in the arm.Mendez, 50, was a 22-year veteran of the force and was married with one daughter. Ortiz, 60, is a 20-year veteran of the department. He is married with three children.
"The Philadelphia Police Department continues to mourn the loss of hero P/O Richard Mendez, who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our city," police noted on social media. "His brave partner, P/O Raul Ortiz, continues to recover from the same heinous attack. Their families demand justice. Please help us find the killers responsible. There is currently a reward of up to $184,500 dollars available for information that takes them into custody.
