New StarWars LEGO sets recreate iconic scenes from the original trilogy including the Death Star trench chase, the trash compactor scene, and Jedi training on Dagobah.
New Star Wars LEGO diorama sets recreate famous scenes from the original trilogy. Star Wars has been a massive property since the first film debuted in 1977. The film grew into a franchise, as The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi quickly followed it, cementing itself within the cultural zeitgeist through massive popularity. Over the years, Star Wars has seen other films released while also expanding the IP with other forms of entertainment and collectibles.
Lego has been producing Star Wars-branded sets since 1999, with an X-Wing Starfighter being the first buildable model released. Since that time, Star Wars has become one of LEGO's top-selling themes, which now features numerous sets varying in scale and detail. Recently, LEGO released a massive Star Wars AT-AT that retails for $799.99, with 6,785 pieces that is over two feet tall. Now, LEGO continues to expand its Star Wars theme with new diorama sets.
Beyond recreating iconic Star Wars scenes, each diorama features unique aspects. Each set includes a quote from the film displayed on the front of the diorama, with some offering functionality, like the Trash Compactor having walls that can close in on the included Minifigures. Aside from Trench Run, which doesn't include Minifigures, the Trash Compactor includes Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewbacca figures, with the Dagobah Training set featuring Luke, Yoda, and R2-D2.
Each Star Wars LEGO diorama is currently available for preorder, with their official release set for April 26. While the dioramas are likely to be available for some time following their release, LEGO retires sets regularly, meaning that they will only be available for a limited time. Following a LEGO set's retirement, prices tend to skyrocket, becoming far more expensive than their original retail prices.
