Rutgers fans during a steady rain in the first quarter of the Scarlet-White Spring game, Saturday, April 29, 2023 in Piscataway, N.J.Despite a sever thunderstorm hitting the area, kickoff for the Rutgers-Temple game remains scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
“Lightning has been detected on the Piscataway campus,” a Rutgers official said. “Fans are instructed to seek shelter, please remain in your vehicles or enter North Gate D on the concourse for cover. The Rutgers Boardwalk will not open at 3:30 p.m. More information to follow once all clear. Kickoff still scheduled for 7:30 p.m.”
According to the the National Weather Service, the severe storm warning remains in affect until 3:45 p.m.For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature’s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding.
