Rutgers basketball will face a local high-major in a charity exhibition.
are slated to face Rick Pitino and his rejuvenated St. John’s program in a charity exhibition game at Carnasecca Arena in Queens, New York, on Saturday, October 21, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NJ Advance Media.Details are still being worked out for the contest, the person said, but tip-off is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m., according to the APP’s report.
Per the APP, proceeds from contest will benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research, which was founded by late Rutgers alum and native New Yorker Jim Valvano. The foundation has raised more than $310 million for cancer research, according toRutgers and St. John’s originally had planned to meet in a closed-door scrimmage on that day, according to the Post’s Zach Braziller, but the sides decided to convert it into a public exhibition for a good cause.
This will be Rutgers’ third charity exhibition under head coach Steve Pikiell and the second time against the Red Storm. The Scarlet Knights beat St. John’s at the RAC in a 2017 exhibition where proceeds went to the Red Cross in the wake of Hurricane Maria’s destruction in Puerto Rico. Last October, Rutgers beat Fairfield at home 78-65 in a fundraiser for Team LeGrand, the spinal-cord research initiative headed by former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand.
